10 TIPS FOR QUARTERBACKS
Share these 10 fundamental quarterback mechanics with your signal-callers during weekly practices.
Be a Leader
Make smart decisions, motivate teammates, maintain positive body language, and embody great character.
Elbow High
Keep throwing elbow above shoulder height on release — avoid sidearm throws for better accuracy and velocity.
Precision Accuracy
Focus on leading your receivers in stride; hit targets in the chest rather than throwing behind them.
Quick Footwork
Incorporate jump rope and agility ladder drills to develop nimble, explosive foot movement in the pocket.
Core & Leg Strength
Power generates from hips, legs, and core — strengthen abdominal muscles and lower back for deeper throws.
Winning Attitude
Respect opponents, officials, and coaches. Accept constructive feedback and lift team morale.
Locked-In Focus
Keep head steady and eyes fixed on the target receiver through release and follow-through.
Explosive Dropback
Separate from center cleanly and backpedal or crossover quickly to establish field vision fast.
Gradual Warm-Up
Start with short easy tosses, loosening shoulder and elbow joints before attempting deep passes.
Master the Grip
Fingers across laces with light thumb pressure to ensure clean, consistent spiral rotation on every throw.
THE MVP COACHING PHILOSOPHY
At MVP Youth Flag Football, sportsmanship, character, and encouragement always come first. Whether you know every play concept or are coaching for the very first time, your positive attitude will leave a lasting impact on young athletes across Southern California.
